The 'Trash Can Art Project’ is a social design project of the Dehradun Hub of the Global Shapers Community in partnership with Alaya Design Studio to encourage ‘Citizen Responsibility for Managing Waste’ in the city of Dehradun.
We are designing and producing Trash Cans that are interesting looking, have a personality of their own, and are designed such to make you sit up, take notice, and even bring a smile to your lips! Placed in strategic areas of the city, we hope these trash cans make a personal connection with individuals, engage them in context and inspire 'belongingness'.
Instead of looking at garbage cans as 'unwanted waste' we want to inspire everyone to think of ways in which we can be individually responsible about waste management.
The most interesting part about this 'Trash Can Art Project' is that these dustbins will be created by the youth of one of the scrap collector and rag-picker communities from the town of Dehradun. The proceeds from these dustbins are going to be used to fund this community so that they create some more amazing dustbins for you while they earn a better living a better way.
Your support will help keeping this project alive and maybe take this initiative to the rest of the the country as well.
The project is led by Gaurav Juyal, Independent Artist and Creative Visualizer, along with the other team members of the Dehradun Hub of the Global Shapers Community.
